HIGHLIGHTS: 

University of Guelph Ontario Swine Research Centre

• Construction of new 5,400 sqm swine research facility for the University of Guelph in Centre Wellington (Inverhaugh).
• Sandwich wall concrete foundation wall construction for manure.  Manure drains from building to a large 140 ft diameter round concrete storage tank.
• The facility operates under biosecurity which means that anyone going into the barn is required to shower in and shower out every time.  There is no access into the barn areas from the outside (except for egress doors (exit only) that are required by fire code for travel distance).
• The facility contains all research levels of swine life including; Farrowing, Breeding, Gestation and Finishing.  There is an Acclimatization area as well for new animals entering the barn to stay in for a period of time before joining the rest of the population (for disease control).
• There are viewing rooms attached to each barn that are accessed from outside where you can view inside the barn without showering (but there is not access to the barn from these viewing rooms).
• All of the exterior walls in the barn areas were constructed with ‘NuForm’.   
• All of the walls and roof metal are white (for high reflectivity), except for some colour around the office area walls for some architectural appeal.   
• The barn roof trusses facing South have been designed to allow for future solar panels to be added to the roof (not currently installed).
• All of the research and facility equipment (feed systems, penning, ventilation, etc.) are all high‐ end equipment to allow for maximum research capabilities.
• There is a 500kW Standby Life Safey Generator that provides power to the facility if the power goes out.
